Films that have helped inspire The Raptus:
The Exorcist:
Parts of the raptus that were inspired by the exorcist were the psychological scares, the multiple characters and grounding the supernatural in reality, making it more believable and terrifying. The gothic look is something else about the film that I like. The concept of demons are another influence, and the implications of it being more a mental concern than a religious one.
The Machinist:
Influences from the machinist was the main character in general. The idea of a likable and sympathetic character, whom by the end is revealed to have done terrible things, leading the audience to question whether or not they should follow this character. The imaginary friend Ivan is a big influence for the legion, especially Foureyes, who wears steamnpunk goggles reminiscent of the factory setting in the machinist.
Se7en:
The mystery story is a huge staple of thriller and se7en was a favourite of mine, not only is the noir asthetic a huge influence, but the great cinematography and the viseral and gritty atmosphere were huge influences on me. The psychotic villain is one of the best I've ever seen and I hope to make a villain as terrifying and memorable in my film. Something I'll take from this film is how much I show the villain. In se7en, Spacey only shows up in the last half hour, the absence of him makes him more terrifying.
La Haine:
La Haine is a minore influence, but the film had a lot of unique things that were in my mind when coming up with the raptus. the gang setting is what inspired morty as a character. the multiple characters also had an impact like the exorcist, the racial diversity was a big influence, as in La Haine, the three main characters are a jew, an arab and a black man. in my film, the gangster character is a white man instead of a stereotypical black man.
Lucid:
An inspiration for my film was my previous film, which isn't a thriller, but as it is my work, it will help to inspire something that is unique. A huge inspiration was the man in the woods, nicknamed "Lurker", the mask I'll be using for the raptus is the mask i used for the lurker. As the entire short film is a dream sequence, I'll be including dreams in my film, really trippy ones of that.
Zodiac:
This film was an inspiration for my film in a sense that it feels like you're watching real life, which makes the film terrifying in places despite it not even being a horror film. Another reason the film was impactful was the design of the zodiac killer, dressed in mostly black, which i want to incorporate into my bad guys.
